Sun Spots

Alfred Gockel ~ Sun Dance

A dive into cool silky water
a thousand wet fingers caressing hot skin
deep underwater silence before
a burst to the surface and the sun.

Body freed of weight and thirst
languorous and supple
prone under a robins-egg sky
and a white-hot circle of heat.

Eyes close, senses are amplified
by the kiss of a breeze

soughing of leaves in the trees
metallic whine of dragonfly wings.

Sun spots behind closed eyes conjure
the unknown, invisible mysteries

a face, a touch, a voice, a destination
fantasies borne from heat and desire.

The mind reels feverishly
around possibilities and promises
until a voluminous white cloud blocks the sun
and eyes open to the ambiguity of shaded thoughts.
