Beneath It All

a hardened surface
shaped and worn soft
by time and use
a veneer imprinted
with the stamp of experience
impenetrable to love
but
take up the knife
and carefully but precisely
begin to carve away
the grime and oil of living
and discover
beneath it all
the patiently waiting heart

[ A special thank you to @sunnie1sotrue for the suggestion ]

  1. Oh Diana...you read my heart today. This is really grabbing me. The grime and oil of living. Our hearts take such a beating, we do need to carve the bad stuff away occasionally. Thank you for these powerful and healing words, my tears are dropping heavy from the depth of this poem. <3
