In Preparation

Her skin is buffed
until it shines
washing off clinging imprints
left behind by lovers
from auld lang syne

Wounds to her heart
stitched closed
healed and polished flat
vessel emptied now
of the detritus of wasted passion

Soul diaphanous
no longer occluded
by the haunts
of desire's mutilated mannequins
spreads wide the veils

the mind
once a flourishing library
of kinetic unfinished volumes
now sits idle, expectant
behind doors stamped welcome

in preparation
in contemplation
emptied and hollowed
once again by love
for love

  4. You describe vividly, emotionally, the emptiness of a life marred by let downs and what happens when life circumstances override our best dreams.

  7. Lovely images, each stanza like a little figurine. I like the "soul diaphanous/
no longer occluded " stanza, and the finish. The sensation of a field lying fallow, old crops ploughed under, waiting for the new, is very strong.

  14. Solid emotional effect, language-wise; good line breaks keep this lean n' sharp.
